Scholtz, Hermann

1845-

Excellent pianist and teacher; born at Breslau. In 1865 he went to Leipsic for two years' study under Carl Riedel and Plaidy, then to Munich, where at the Royal School of Music his teachers were Rheinberger in composition and theory, and von Bülow in piano. He taught in this institution from 1860 to 1875 then went to Dresden, where in 1880 he was made Royal Saxon chambervirtuoso. A fine pianist and teacher, he is also a composer of ability and has written a sonata in G minor; a concerto for piano; Passaglia in D minor; Lyrische Blatter, a set of delightful lyrics; Traum,bilder; Stimmungsbilder; Album-blatter; a trio for piano and strings; Madchenlieder; and a careful and scholarly edition of Chopin's piano compositions.
