Bavarian Roman Catholic priest. He received his education at Ratisbon under Proske and Schrems. In 1856 he was ordained priest; three years later was made choirmaster in the Priests' Seminary, Ratisbon. He was later parish priest at Schatzhof and in 1873 Pius IX. conferred on him the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. He was the founder of a German singing society for the improvement of Catholic Church song, the editor and founder of the Fliegende Blatter for Catholic Church music and of another musical paper called Musica Sacra. He was also the author of several treatises on the subject of sacred music in the Catholic Church.
