German composer and pianist; born at Breslau. He studied at Berlin under Kiel and in 1884 took the Mendelssohn prize. Besides numerous songs he has written a concerto in C minor, for the piano; an overture; and the fine symphonic poems, Euphorion, in 1888, and Tragodie eines Kunstlers, five movements, in 1894.
