Cahen, Albert

1846-1903

A French composer and pupil of Mme. Szarvady, and of Cesar Franck, having studied the piano under the former and composition under the latter. He produced several works of importance, including Jean le precurseur, a biblical drama, which was given at the Concert National in 1874, and Endymion, a mythical poem, in 1875. He made his debut on the stage with Le Bois, a one-act play, at the Opera Comique in 1888. In 1886 he produced another play, La Femme de Claude, a three-act lyric drama, which was not a success. Cahen also wrote a set of songs entitled Marines. He died at Cap d'Ail in March, 1903.
