Altes, Joseph Henri

French flute-player, brother of the preceding. He was born at Rouen, and studied under his father, beginning music at a very early age. Became a pupil at the Paris Conservatory, and from 1868 to 1894, was a professor there. He was an excellent flute-player, played at the Grand Opera, Paris, and wrote considerable music for the flute.
