Kuntzen, Johann Paul

1696-1770

German organist, singer and composer; father of Adolph Karl, and grandfather of Friedrich Ludwig Emilius Kuntzen. He was born at Leisnig, Saxony, and was educated at the University of Leipsic, where he played and sang in the Opera. He was made chapelmaster at Zerbst and went to Hamburg as an opera composer, finally becoming organist to the Marienkirche at Lubeck. Besides his operas, he wrote cantatas; a passion; and an oratorio; but his works were not published.
