Wermann, Friedrich Oskar
1840-
Contemporary organist, teacher and composer. He was born at Neichen, Saxony; studied in Dresden under Julius Otto, Merkel, Kragen and Friedrich Wieck, later studied at the Leipsic Conservatory. Service as music-director at Wesserling was followed by a period of teaching in the Music School at Neufchatel, in 1868 he was appointed teacher in the Normal School in Dresden, in 1876 became cantor of the Kreuzschule and music-director of the three principal Evangelical churches. Among his compositions are numerous motets, songs, piano studies, the opera Vineta, an organ sonata, a vocal mass, an organ sonata with violoncello, Reformations-Cantate.
