Terradellas, Domenico

Composer of operas; born in Barcelona, Spain. The date of his birth is not certainly known, but the date of his baptism is fixed as 1711. After studying under Durante at San Onofrio Conservatory at Naples he began to compose, bringing out several operas in Italy and two in London, and in 1746 or 1747 receiving an appointment as maestro di cappella at San Giacomo degli Spagnuoli in Rome, where he remained until his death in 1751, said to be largely due to the failure of his opera, Sesostri. Among his operas are Bellerofonte; Artemisia; Mitridate; Astarte; Merope; Sesostri, and the opera buffa, L'Intrigle delle Cantarine.
