Tamagno, Francesco



Famous operatic tenor; born at Turin. He began his musical education when eighteen years old and made his professional debut when twenty-three at Palermo in Un Ballo in Maschera. He afterwards sang in Venice with Josephine De Reszke, a sister to Edouard and Jean, and for many years was one of the most popular singers at La Scala in Milan. He has since sung at Buenos Ayres, Rio de Janeiro, Montevideo, Madrid, Lisbon, Paris, London and the principal cities in the United States. His most celebrated role is Otello. He appeared before Queen Victoria at Windsor in 11 Trovatore. He has been a popular tenor in America, France, Germany, England, Russia and Spain and has an extensive repertory.
