Neitzel, Otto



Pianist, musical critic and teacher. Born at Falkenburg, Pomerania, in 1852. He attended the Joachim Gymnasium, became a student at Kullak's Academy, Berlin, and later at the University, where, in 1875, he was given the degree of Doctor of Philosophy. He has made a concert tour as pianist with Pauline Lucca and Sarasate; has been conductor of a musical society and of the City Theatre of Strasburg; a teacher in the Moscow Conservatory and later in the Cologne Conservatory, and critic of the K61nische Zeitung. Neitzel has written three fairly successful operas, Angela; Der alte Dessauer; and Dido, for which he wrote both text and music.
