Blumenthal, Jacques
1829-
German pianist and composer. Born at Hamburg, where he studied. Later went to Vienna, where he studied in the Conservatory and afterward at the Conservatory of Paris with Halevy. He went to London in 1848, and settled there as a fashionable teacher and pianist to Queen Victoria. He is a naturalized British subject. Beside piano pieces and compositions for the violin and violoncello, he has written many songs, some of the most popular of which are, My Queen; The Message; The Bend of the River; and The Requital. In later years his songs have been published in album form.
