An Italian composer and writer. He was born at Naples, studied piano under Labriola, counterpoint of Moretti and Fioravanti, composition with Mercadante. He is the author of several operas; an oratorio; a Pensiero sinfonia; of overtures; pieces for the piano; some vocal music; and of the theoretical work, Introduction of the Tetrachordal System into Modern Music. His opera, La Figlia del Diavolo, produced at Naples in 1879, was denounced by the critics as straining after realism and originality.
