Albertazzi, Emma

1814-1847

An English opera singer, whose maiden name was Howson. She was the daughter of a music-master, and first studied the piano. Later she studied singing under Andrea Costa. At the age of fifteen she appeared at a concert in London, the following year was engaged at the King's Theatre, and shortly went to Italy, where she was engaged at Piacenza. In this city, in 1831, she married Signer Albertazzi. After a period of study with Celli, she sang successfully in Italy, Madrid and London, and in Paris, in 1835, reached the height of her career. She was considered a good singer but an indifferent actress.
