Vasconcellos, Joaquin de
1849-
Portuguese critic; born in Oporto. He received his education in Hamburg and Coimbra, and traveled extensively on the Continent. In 1883 he was made professor of German in the Oporto Lycee. He also has had charge of the local Museum of Trade and Industry. He has published numerous articles on the fine arts, specializing on music and German literature. His great work has been a dictionary of Portuguese musicians. Among his articles are O Faust de Goethe, Luiza Todi, Reforma do ensino de bellas artes, Albrecht Dürer e a sua influencia na peninsula, and Goesiana.
