Turnhout, Gerard de

Belgian church musician; was born at Turnhout. He was a chorister at Antwerp Cathedral in 1545, and in 1562 became a master of Confrerie de la Vierge, and the following year master of music at the Cathedral. In 1572 Philip II. of Spain appointed him maestro di capella and he went to the Royal Chapel at Madrid, He wrote a mass for five voices, in Praestantissimorum divinae musices auctorum missae decem; motets and chansons in collections; fourth book of Chansons a quatre Parties; third book of Recueil des fleurs, Een duytsch Musyckboeck.
