Tromlitz, Johann Georg

Flute-maker, teacher and virtuoso on that instrument; born at Gera. Most of his life was passed at Leipsic, where he became well known as a teacher and concert player, and where he was also recognized because of certain improvements he made on his instrument. He was a contributor to the Allgemeine musikalisches Zeitung and published several articles on the flute, namely, Ausführlicher und gründlicher Unterricht die Flote zu spielen; Uber die Flote mit mehren Klappen; and Kurtze Abhandlung von Flotenspielen. He composed two books of sonatas for flute and piano; six Partien for flute; three concertos for flute and strings and collection of German songs.
