German composer of church-music; was born at Bayerfeld, Saxony. After receiving an education at the Kreuzschule he became cantor at Hohenstein, a position which he occupied for fifty-three years. He died at Niederwonitz. In Germany he was greatly honored as a church composer. Among his writings are   eleven masses; twenty Christmas arias; six Passion arias; seventy-two church cantatas for Sundays and feast days for an entire year; six choral preludes with trio and allabreve; twenty wedding songs with bassoons, clarinets, horns and oboes; twelve preludes and a symphony for organ, and quartet for strings; four collections of songs; Naumann, ein Todtenopfer; Urians Reise um die Welt; Der Glaube; Melodic zum Vater unser; and Urians Nachricht von der Aufklarung.
