Silver, Charles

1868-

French composer; born in Paris. Became a pupil of Dubois and Massenet at the Paris Conservatory, winning the Grand Prize of Rome with a cantata, 1'Interdit. He has composed a one-act operetta, 1'Escarpolette; a one-act elegiac poem, Rais; a fantasie; a four-act fairy opera; an oratorio, Tobie; two orchestral suites, entitled Poeme Carnavalesque and Le Ballet de la Reine; a dramatic overture, Berenice, and songs. Silver's opera, La Belle au Bois Dormant, was produced in Paris in 1895.
