Leybach, Ignace

Pianist; born at Gambsheim, Alsace. He received musical instruction in Strasburg under Hoerter and Wackenthaler, and in Paris under Pixis, Kalkbrenner, and Chopin. He held a position in 1844 as organist in Toulouse, and later went to Paris to live. His drawing-room pieces became very popular. He also published a harmony method, concert-pieces for the harmonium, a great organ method, containing two or three hundred pieces, and many songs and motets.
