Klauser, Karl

His work is chiefly that of editor and compiler of classic and modern compositions. Born of Swiss parentage, in St. Petersburg, Russia. He is practically self-educated, having picked up most of his musical knowledge in Germany. He came to New York in 1850 and in 1856 went to Farmington, Conn., where he was for many years musical director in Miss Porter's School. With Theodore Thomas and J. K. Paine he edited Famous Musicians. He also edited Half Hours with the Best Composers, and the compositions of Beethoven, Mozart, Schumann, Field and Wagner.
