Gebauer, François René


Composer and bassoonist; born at Versailles; studied under his brother, Michel Joseph, and Deyienne. At fifteen he was bassoonist in the Swiss Guard, at twenty-three professor of bassoon at the Conservatory, where he remained till 1802, and resumed the position after 1825. From 1801 to 1826 he was a member of the Grand Opera Orchestra. He wrote a variety of compositions for wind-instruments, and also a method for bassoon.
