Asantschewsky, Michel von

Russian book-collector and composer. His library of works on music was one of the finest private libraries of its kind in Europe. He was born at Moscow, studied at Leipzic under Hauptmann and Richter, and from 1870 to 1876 was director of the St. Petersburg Conservatory. He was the author of a sonata for piano and violoncello, trio for piano and strings, various pieces for the piano, and other works.
